On the Torsional Behavior of the Longitudinal Bridge Girders Used in the LT-Bridge Construction Method

A new bridge construction method, combining semi-precast elements and in situ concrete, has been developed at TU Wien, with the aim of decreasing erection time. In course using this structural conditions arise that render a more detailed investigation necessary. By connecting precast, thin-walled box girder to segment located on pier by means post-tensioning, joint is created. casting concrete bottom top slabs, can be bridged longitudinal reinforcement; however, unreinforced vertical joints webs remain. This detail specific characteristic LT-bridge method needs further investigated assessed, as question arises how circumstance affects torsional bearing behavior superstructure. Torsion tests described literature consider ordinary girders reinforcement or post-tensioned segmental bridges without joints. Therefore, layout had experimentally. Two large-scale girders—one other webs—were tested, allowing for direct comparison conventionally manufactured those erected method. Furthermore, we whether results common calculation methods corresponded experimental findings.
